Markéta Hánová graduated in Japanese Studies from the Faculty of Arts of Charles University in Prague, where she also completed her doctoral studies in Art History. From 1998 to 2000, she worked as a professional lecturer in the National Gallery Prague, becoming a curator of the Japanese collections in 2000, and director of the Collection of Asian Art in 2012.
Dr Hánová focuses on Japanese painting and print theory and history, the history of collecting and Japanese art exhibitions in Europe (Japanese Woodblock Prints and Collectors in the Czech Lands, 2019), and the dialogue between European and Japanese art, including the Japonisme phenomenon (Japonisme in Czech Art, 2014).
