Based on a strategic partnership between participating institutions, the project will significantly improve the ability of the Police of the Czech Republic (PČR) and the organs active in criminal proceedings to conduct forensic analyses of forged modern artworks. The complex, unique, inter-institutional and interdisciplinary research conducted by specialized units will gather specific data that are key to effective authentication. By making analytical methods and characteristics of scientific parameters more effective, it will be possible to predict and precisely detect safety risks posed by art forgery. The project's results will be immediately used in forensic practice of PČR's authentication service and will advance combating and uncovering these property crimes.

The project is based on the current need of the Forensic Services of Czech Police and law enforcement authorities for robust procedures to assess the authenticity of works of art. Growing numbers of artwork counterfeit cases, mainly from the 1920s to the 1950s, show the current need to create a database of standardized results obtained by instrumental methods and new procedures in the assessment of authenticity. This will be a crucial corrective to the materials used in counterfeits.
