Marion Ackermann is a prominent German art historian and museum director. Since
November 2016, she has been the Director General of the Staatliche
Kunstsammlungen Dresden (SKD), one of the most significant museum complexes in
Germany. Born in 1965 in Göttingen, Germany, Ackermann studied art history,
German literature, and philosophy in Göttingen, Kassel, Vienna and Munich. Before her tenure at SKD, she served as
the Director of the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart (2003-2009) and the Kunstsammlung
Nordrhein-Westfalen in Düsseldorf (2009-2016). Ackermann is known for her
innovative approaches to museum curation and her efforts to engage broader
audiences with art and culture. In June 2024, Marion Ackermann was appointed
the president of the Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation (SPK). She will be
the first woman to hold the position at the organisation, which oversees
Berlin’s state museums.
