It is with deep sadness that we received the news that Dr Felix Hess, mathematician, physicist, sound designer, collector, and above all philanthropist, passed away at the age of eighty-one on Monday, 10 October, following a long illness. In 2019, he donated to the National Gallery Prague a unique body of Zen painting – 526 works from the Kaeru-an collection (“From the Frog’s Hut”), one of the most comprehensive collections of its kind outside of Japan. The legacy of Felix Hess comes to life in the ongoing ZENGA – Japanese Zen Paintings from the Kaeru-An Collection exhibition at the Salm Palace, and will also become part of the future permanent exhibition of Asian art. The National Gallery Prague would like to express its undying gratitude for the generous gift of Felix Hess and sincere condolences to his survivors.
