How is an exhibition a choreography? Can dance reveal the relationships at work in an art show?
Internationally acclaimed choreographer Alice Chauchat (FR/DE), together with dancer Hana Polanská (CZ) and in dialogue with curator Michal Novotný, opens up research on the “choreography of relationships” staged by the National Gallery Prague’s permanent exhibition 1939–2021: The End of the Black-and-White Era.
During the first phase (research), Chauchat and Polanská, together with dancers Nhung Dang (CZ) and Ran Jiao (CN/CZ), explore the internal dynamics of the exhibition’s hanging and their possible echoes in choreographic structures. Next year, the team will present the results of this process as a dance performance.
We invite you to encounter the work in progress during two presentations where the artists will share their latest experiments and engage in framed conversations. The Centre for Choreographic Development SE.S.TA organises the project in collaboration with the National Gallery Prague.
FIRST VISIT (INITIAL EXPERIMENTS)
Sun 5 Nov at 4 pm, Trade Fair Palace
Visit the artists in the gallery. They will share their initial movement experiments and reflect on them within a discussion.
SECOND VISIT (INTERIM RESULTS)
Sun 12 Nov at 4 pm, Trade Fair Palace
Check again how far the team has come in the project’s first phase. An exhibition tour guided by the curator and a further discussion with the makers will frame the presentation.
