A talk and poetry reading by Scottish author Alan Spence.
Alan Spence reads some of his haiku poetry and his versions of verses by Zen master Hakuin Ekaku whose Daruma portrait features in the Zenga exhibition. He will also discuss Hakuin’s work and how it inspired his own novel Night Boat, based on Hakuin’s remarkable life.
Alan Spence is an award-winning Scottish poet and playwright, novelist and short story writer. He is Professor Emeritus in Creative Writing at the University of Aberdeen and was recently the Edinburgh Makar (the Poet Laureate for the City). He was awarded the prestigious Order of the Rising Sun by the Government of Japan. With his wife he runs the Sri Chinmoy meditation centre in Edinburgh.
