This intimate exhibition presents the work of the Florentine painter Andrea del Sarto (1486-1530), whose painting of the Madonna and Child from Opočno Castle has recently been restored. The technological investigation of the work, together with art-historical studies, brought new and interesting findings. The picture of the Madonna and Child from Opočno Castle was to be found, at latest from 1807, in the collections of the noble family of Colloredo-Mansfeld and from then onwards it adorned the interiors of the family residences in Döbling, Prague and Opočno. For a long time, however, it was considered to be a copy - in fact a total of 34 copies of this painting were preserved!
In the past this picture suffered considerable damage - restoration, however, has rehabilitated the painting and enabled it to be included once again among the works of Andrea del Sarto. The results of the investigation are presented in the exhibition in the form of photographic documentation and an accompanying text. The National Heritage Institute has kindly loaned the painting.
