A graduate in Aesthetics (2002) and Japanese Studies (2005) from the Faculty of Arts of Charles University, Jana Ryndová completed a research fellowship at the Doshisha University in Kyoto in 2008–2012, successfully defending her dissertation titled The drama "Yoshitsune and the thousand cherry trees." Minamoto No Yoshitsune as a martial strategist, courtier and literary myth. Since 2013, she has been a curator of the Japanese collection in the National Gallery Prague. Dr Ryndová focuses especially on the link between Japanese woodblock prints and Edo period drama. Following the cooperation with the Ritsumeikan University’s Art Research Center in Kyoto, she has continued the gradual digitisation of woodblock prints in NGP collections.
