Ars linearis is a periodical focused on art on paper and vellum, i.e. prints, drawings and fragments of illuminated manuscripts, which can be called – with reservation – “the art of line”. Ars linearis originally published especially papers presented at a similarly oriented scientific colloquium. Currently it publishes papers concentrating on this art even without any connection with the colloquium.
The papers can be dedicated to the art on paper and vellum dating from any historical period ranging from the Middle Ages to the present. They should be research papers, not lengthy studies, reflecting any up-to-date research outcome of the researchers from the National Gallery Prague or their colleagues both in the Czech Republic and abroad. This focus makes the annually published Ars linearis a unique publication in the international context, too. Its international impact is enhanced by the fact that the papers are published in full and in Czech and English.

Reviewing process
All texts to be published in Ars linearis go through a reviewing process (the reviewer does not know the name of the text’s author, and the author does not know the name of the reviewer). The reviewers are always experts in their field and are not in any way linked with the workplace of the author. They comment on professional qualities of the text, which is published only after the inclusion of possible suggestions. The forms including all details of each review are archived.
