Zdeněk Šimek (1927–1970) was one of the major sculptors of post-war Czech abstraction. Since 1964, he displayed his artwork with the Trasa Group. This association put together a generation of artists who had graduated in the 1950s with Professors Emil Filla and J. Wagner at the Academy of Arts, Architecture and Design in Prague. Zdeněk Šimek came up with his own concept of abstraction based on the purity of form, summary of shapes and clear curves of material. The exhibition in the Recess on the second floor is a comprehensive presentation of his work.
