Gaston Lachaise (1882–1935)

Date: 18.10.2006 - 07.01.2007

In modern sculpture, the work of Lachaise represents a classic line typical of A. Maillol’s work. He was born and studied in France but spent most of his life in the United States. The woman’s body is a dominating theme of Lachaise’s best artwork but he is also known for his portraits. Among others, some of his sculptures adorn Rockefeller’s Center in New York City. Owing to the Lachaise Foundation, the exhibition of his statues and drawings brings this artist back to Europe.
